- Harsher in Hindsight:
- Amy dealing with her mom's villainy is tougher to watch after Amy's own FaceāHeel Turn in season six.
- Xander asks Willow to kindly stop beating a dead horse: "Will, yeah, that is the point. You don't have to drive it through my head like a railroad spike." Much later, we find out that this was Spike's preferred method of torture.
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- Buffy asks her mother if she would like to be sixteen again, and her mother is horrified at the thought; Joyce would, in fact, mentally regress to her teenage years in "Band Candy".
- Amy tells Buffy that the cheerleader Amber trained with Benson.
- Never Live It Down:
- This episode is likely to blame for pop culture often portraying Buffy as a cheerleader. The Movie doesn't help, granted, but it's somewhat obscure.
- The infamous cat scare. Which may or may not have been put in the credits to make people think Buffy could turn into a cat.
- One-Scene Wonder: In her one scene in the entire series (for which she is uncredited for), Amber Grove has a very impressively choreographed cheer audition, followed by her nearly being immolated by a witch's spell.
- Padding: The Cat Scare pretty much only exists so it could be put in the credits. Catherine Madison's cat makes no other appearance in the episode, and obviously wasn't a very effective guardian for the spellbook.
