• Alternative Joke Interpretation: That Jan's date canceled on her at the same time that the legal assistant canceled on his date to come to Donovan's family dinner may not be so coincidental after all... In fact, it may very well have been the intention behind the joke after all for all anyone knows. See Funny Moments for details.
• Funny Moments:
  • One of the legal assistants is asked to come to dinner, but he tells Donovan he has a date—only to then quickly say he'll cancel it though. At family dinner, Jan tells Donovan and everyone else that her date stood her up and guess who walks in right after that... Whether or not it was intended, just the idea alone that he canceled their date only to end up having dinner with her and her family still makes it incredibly funny anyway.
  • Donovan is constantly put off by how stoic Abel is. When asked if Abel is even capable of being nervous, his only reply is "Would it help?"
  • With one line Donovan reveals he knows how fake Abel's "family lawyer" was.
  • And likewise for the family members with another: "They probably couldn't even identify each other."
  • Donovan summing up people feel about Powers getting captured:
    Donovan: He's probably the most hated man in America. After Rudolph Abel. (beat) And me.
• Memetic Mutation: "Would it help?"
• Paranoia Fuel: Donovan's son becomes increasingly wary of a nuclear war after watching a Red Scare video. See Crazy Survivalist.
• Retroactive Recognition:
  • Donovan's son is none other than Noah Schnapp.
  • Eve Hewson as Donovan's daughter Jan, about the same time she was on The Knick and about eight years before Flora and Son.
