YMMV / Brawl−

  • Broken Base: Update 4.0 beta got this. It changed hitstun from x.056 to x.050. Not only that, it changed Ganondorf's projectile and removed Ike's No Sympathy Mode.
    • 4.0BC addressed these issues by giving Ganondorf his original projectile back and giving Ike his No Sympathy Mode back. However, his stun is still lower than it used to be. Despite this, the Broken Base has gotten a lot quieter and less peeved at this.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • A number of custom moves and tweaks in Super Smash Bros 4, such as Yoshi's Egg Bombs and Samus' Mega Bomb special, are similar to the effects of their Minus counterparts.
    • Just like Project M, Roy ended up appearing in Brawl Minus a full year before he ended up returning for real.
    • With 4.0BC, Mewtwo is now playable in Project M, Brawl- and Smash 4. Lampshaded in Mewtwo's reveal trailer:
      Mewtwo Strikes Back! (Again!)
    • In version 4.0 Beta, Pichu was given a new mechanic where it could use stronger moves at the cost of percentage if the button is pushed instead of tapped. Then, Smash 4 introduced Ryu... who uses stronger moves (albeit, not at the cost of percentage) if the button is pushed instead of tapped. Then came Ultimate where Pichu is introduced as a veteran fighter after 18 years.
  • Parody Displacement: Brawl+, the mod which this mod parodies and that went on to become Project M, died in 2010, but Brawl- is still here and in active development as of 2023!
  • Shocking Moments: The 4.1 announcement trailer got a lot of this at the end when Captain Falcon charged and stored a Falcon Punch while a voice said "You got boost power!"
  • Spiritual Successor: The game can be thought of as Smash's more balanced equivalent of Street Fighter II: Rainbow Edition
