YMMV / Bravelands

  • Memetic Mutation: Joking about lion prides being called "tribes". Prior to release, it was mentioned that lions lived in "tribes". The actual series uses the correct "pride", and the Erins do know what lion prides are called, however the term is still funny to fans and non-fans alike.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Towards the end of "Broken Pride", it is revealed that Stinger, who was previously viewed with adoration by the rest of the Brightforest Troop, was the one who'd murdered both Grub and Bark Crownleaf, and since he is now the Universally Beloved Leader of the troop, Thorn can't do anything to expose him without risking his peers turning against him. "Code of Honor" goes even further with The Reveal that he was also the one who orchestrated the murder of the Great Mother at around the same time, and when Thorn tries to dispatch him for the safety of the Bravelands, he frames Thorn for the crime, thus turning not just the entire troop, but nearly every other animal in the savannah, including Fearless, against him.
    • Blood and Bone, where Stinger commits genocide just to show what he's capable of was where many drew the line for him if they hadn't already.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: Of The Lion King (1994). Fearless' father Gallant is murdered by another lion (like Mufasa being murdered by Scar, though Titan, Gallant's murderer, is not from Gallantpride), and Fearless runs away only to be adopted by another prey animal species (Fearless is adopted by baboons, while Simba lived with a meerkat and warthog). Fearless even decides to return home and challenge Titan for killing Gallant, while Simba challenges Scar for ruining the kingdom. Ironically, Titan has more in common with Scar in the draft titled "King of the Jungle" than the Scar of the final film as both are rogues unrelated to the original pride leader. The series also takes place in the "bravelands", like how The Lion King takes place in the "Pridelands".
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: The series are about a lion cub whose father is murdered by a rogue lion in the first book, resulting in Fearless running off in order to survive. This isn't The Lion King, however. Fearless wants to get revenge and kill Titan when he's older. Aside from Fearless's plot, the other two protagonists (a baboon named Thorn and an elephant named Sky) have their own stories full of Family-Unfriendly Death and Family-Unfriendly Violence.
