YMMV / Boys do Tankary?

• Alternative Character Interpretation:
  • Did Ami do a Face–Heel Turn out of anger over being replaced as instructor and later demoted, so that she could get revenge on Vincent and the boys? Or was she Evil All Along, and objected to his coming in because her mission was to serve as Oarai's instructor, and his replacing her compromised her ability to do it?
  • After spending the first few chapters pining after Vincent, Miho hooks up with Jon shortly after the battle with St. Gloriana. Is this a case of (albeit hasty) Second Love, or is Miho so desperate to get a boyfriend that she doesn't care who she winds up with?
• Badass Decay: St. Gloriana canonically wins against Oarai twice- an admittedly narrow win in the practice match in Episode 4, and a victory in the St Gloriana and Pravda vs. Oarai and Chihatan match in Der Film. In this, they lose fairly easily against Oarai, and would have been defeated almost instantly if Vincent hadn't held back in order to test the girls.
• Fridge Horror: Vincent's mother has him shipped off to an orphanage that takes him, no questions asked, without giving him a name, and he eventually gets recruited as a child soldier. How many other boys did Vincent's mother give up? What kind of foster care system would treat children in such a way?
• Harsher in Hindsight: Early on in the fic, Vincent gets a call from a woman who wants him to stay away from her daughter, Nyra. Later, it turns out that the woman is also Vincent's mother, who'd abandoned him just after he was born, and neither of them knew that they were related at the time of the phone call.
• Les Yay: After the victory over St. Gloriana, three out of five of the members of Anglerfish Team split up for dates with the boys, at which point Yukari comes up to Miho with a smile and says "I'm all yours." Granted, Yukari and Miho soon get set up with Nick and Jon, respectively, but given how Yukari feels about Miho in canon, it isn't hard to read that sort of subtext into her offer to go out in this fic.
• Moral Event Horizon: Several of Vincent’s men cross it in a flashback when they rape and murder some teenaged POWs. One of Vincent's superiors crosses it when he, in response to Vincent sparing Nyra, puts them both in a cell for 30 days in order to get one of them to kill the other.
• Strangled by the Red String: All of the canon/OC pairings are established with hardly any buildup. Vincent/Saori, Ian/Hana, Brent/Momo, Josh/Mako, Nick/Yukari, Jon/Miho... the list goes on.
• Unexpected Character: Several characters from Advance Wars show up as members of the 4B3TT3RL1F3 program, which is a surprise, considering that only GuP characters and OCs had showed up for most of the fic.
• Wangst: Miho, who, in canon, has dealt with issues such as her family’s strict expectations, being treated coldly by her sister and mother (For Maho, it's a facade, but for Shiho, it is not), and knowing that if she loses, she will be disinherited and her school will be shut down, starts crying and whining over Vincent being attracted to Saori instead of her, believing he should be going after her because she’s commander.
