YMMV / Born to Be Wilde

There are unmarked spoilers prior to chapter 14 of the story. Proceed with caution.

  • Adorkable:
    • Officer Jimmy Frost definitely comes across as an endearing dork with his silly antics, child-like attitude and overall tendency to be the Cloudcuckoolander.
    • Kyle VanDal, as a child, is a geeky, cute kit who pokes fun at his father and likes to pretend he's already a hotshot prosecutor. His adult self is more serious, but still shows some of that dorky side from time to time.
    • Marian Wilde, who gets giddy and excitable over the prospect of riding a motorcycle and has the absolute time of her life doing so.
  • Funny Moments: Has its own page.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Koslov's betrayal against Mr. Big stings a bit harder since Zootopia+ reveals that the two were loyal Childhood Friends. Making his treachery of Mr. Big's trust much more tragic as they've known and helped each other since they were just kids.
  • Moe: Thanks to his chipper, dorky attitude and character's notes on how handsome he is, fan art often depicts Jimmy Frost as quite adorable. How can you not love this kid?
  • Moral Event Horizon: John Wilde, AKA Count Reynard crossed it a long time ago, long before the story began, when he chose to brutally murder the Junior Ranger Scouts that harassed Nick in the film's flashback. If his later actions didn't cement him as a completely evil guy, then this one definitely did.
  • Narm Charm: There are plenty of rather absurd situations and downright unrealistic events in this story which can come across as quite ridiculous, but given the overall slapstick tone the chapters have, it's perfectly congruent with one another.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Reynard recalling how he murdered the Junior Ranger Scouts is particularly unsettling and stands out as one of the most heinous things he's done so far.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Simon VanDal, especially to readers that aren't following the drabbles. He is supposed to be seen as a desperate man driven to extremes while trying to find his missing son, but since his tactics involve willingly aiding the Count in his crusade against the other crime lords, up to and including taking lives, and holding the entire ZPD hostage just to get information they may or may not have had, on top of him showing little to no remorse over the mammals he steps on in the process, a number of readers weren't too keen on supporting his efforts once his objective was revealed. Not helped by the fact that his status as a former Delta Fox agent effectively allowed him to get off with a slap on the wrist.
