YMMV / Boohbah

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: The name of the creatures the show is named after, the Boohbahs. It's hard not to say or think the name without dirty thoughts following it.
  • Awesome Music: Even critics of the show have admitted that the soundtrack is very unique and catchy, especially the songs for the final dance segments of every episode.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Jumbah, the blue Boohbah, is likely the most popular of the Boohbahs. This is probably because he has the most personality out of all of them.
  • Nightmare Retardant: For a lot of people who are creeped out by them, the Boohbahs stop being unsettling the minute they fall on the ground and make fart noises.
  • No Problem with Licensed Games: The Flash game, "Boohbah Zone", is considered genuinely enjoyable despite being a licensed tie-in game.
  • Periphery Demographic: The show has fans in their early teens and some older, likely due to its surreal nature.
  • Quirky Work: The show is known to be very trippy, to the point that in the Cracked article "The 5 Most Aggressively Crazy Websites on the Internet", Mark Hill compared it to "the findings of a scientist adding LSD to baby food." In brutalmoose's review of "Boohbah Wiggle and Giggle," he comments about the show "So what must have happened is top UK scientists all got together and said 'You know what? We believe that the best thing for children's developing minds is wide eyed alien marshmallows that can fly through the power of farting.' After hearing that, TV producers just jumped all over it."
  • Sweet Dreams Fuel: For those whom the show isn't nightmare fuel to, it is plenty of this. The beautiful visuals along with the cozy teddy bearish look of the Boohbahs themselves is enough to get anyone ready for sleep. The relaxing music of the show also helps. By no coincidence the same creators would go on to make the show In the Night Garden... which was created for the sole pupose of being this trope.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: While all of the Boohbahs run on Ambiguous Gender, Zumbah and Jumbah are made to be more masculine in color and behavior, while Humbah and Jingbah are much more feminine. Zing Zing Zingbah is the only one who falls in between the line of traditionally masculine vs. traditionally feminine, leading many to assume that Zing Zing Zingbah is male, when she's actually meant to be female.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The Boohzone sets are very well done and look vibrant and colorful.
