YMMV / Bones (2001)

• Cult Classic: The film developed a cult following a bit after it's poor reception, mainly due to it's very chill soundtrack, the effort of the actors, the decent horror, and of course, Snoop really giving it his all. The fact it's a homage to blaxplotation makes it even more better.
• Heartwarming Moments:
  • According to director Ernest Dickerson, Snoop Dogg was blushing after kissing Pam Grier. Turns out Pam was Snoop's childhood celebrity crush, so getting to kiss her was a dream come true for him.
  • Jimmy refusing to sell drugs in his neighborhood, since he cares more about the people than making money.
  • After seeing Cynthia spooked while they were getting intimate, Patrick respects her decision when she says that she's not ready for sex and he encourages her to stay in the bedroom for the night while he sleeps elsewhere.
• Tear Jerker:
  • The opening scene, starting off with showing how beloved Jimmy was to the neighborhood and how well he treated the citizens...only for things to go wrong when Jimmy disappears, causing the neighborhood to go from a tight-knit community to a broken down ghetto.
  • Jimmy Bones walking the streets of his beloved neighborhood after his resurrection and seeing what twenty years of drug peddling has done to it.
  • Jimmy Bones' death. Seeing Pearl stripped of her blood stained dress and left in a sobbing heap by the men who murdered the man she loved (and the father of her child) is just gut wrenching.
  • Pearl's Heroic Suicide, especially since her daughter Cynthia witnesses the whole thing. It gets even worse when it winds up being a Senseless Sacrifice, resulting in a Downer Ending.
• Vindicated by History: The film got poor reception when it was originally released, but later became a Cult Classic.
