- Jerkass Woobie: Valerie. While she's rude to Emma, refusing to offer help when Emma collapses on the staircase, and mocks Emma's blindness by making faces at her as she passes her in the hall, she winds up raped and murdered simply because of a clerical error on a hospital form.
- The Woobie:
- Officer Crowe. He's assigned to protect Emma, who runs away from him on the streets of Chicago and sneaks out of her own apartment via the fire escape, earning him the wrath of Hallstrom. Hallstrom, after sleeping with Emma, covers for his misdeed by telling Crowe that Emma was "hysterical crying and shit" and as a result he had to take care of her all night, effectively manipulating Crowe into thinking Crowe had somehow failed to do his job. Lastly, Crowe's trusting nature ends up getting him killed after Neil Booker lures him into a garage.
- Margaret Tattersall. She survived getting a heart transplant and shortly afterward gets murdered for it.
