• Alternate Character Interpretation:
  • Salem. Is she an Adaptational Nice Guy who genuinely cares about and loves May, is it all part of her manipulation and is she only using May for her own ends without truly caring about her, or is it perhaps a mix of both? Given that the story is told from May's extremely biased point of view, it's impossible to tell.
  • Likewise, is Ozpin an Adaptational Jerkass who's much more willing to disregard people's emotions and mental wellbeing, or is that all Salem's heavily biased narrative?
• The Woobie: Like you wouldn't believe. May is the abused child of a wealthy atlesian family who has lived her whole life uncomfortable in her own body and knows that no one would ever accept her if she tried to comeout, who suffers extreme bullying for her perceived lack of masculinity eventually leading to an attempted suicide. After all of that she is picked up by the malicious Salem, who pushes her towards embracing her anger and hatred and become a murderous barely human fanatic follower and consort.
