YMMV / Black Lightning (2009)

• Critical Dissonance: The film was panned by critics who call it a Cliché Storm that borrows just too much from Spider-Man than necessary. Casual viewers say that for the lack of Superhero Stories in Russia, the film manages to take the best from the best, and has enough original material to make it interesting.
• Inferred Holocaust: During the final fight on the Red Square, Kuptsov bombards the Black Lightning with Macross Missile Massacre, which gets dodged. It wasn't seen, but hopefully nobody else got hit.
• Spiritual Successor: Dima follows the same story as Peter Parker in Spider-Man. He lives with a poor but happy family, yet manages to attend a prestigious university, and works as a delivery boy for a Funny Foreigner. He tries to secure a love interest while misunderstanding her interests. He discovers powers and uses them for personal gain, which indirectly gets a member of his family killed. When he starts using his powers for good, he discovers that the Eccentric Millionaire he met at the university is actually a dangerous psychopath who tries to destroy the city and who takes the hero's love interest as hostage, and also chases him across the city with rockets.
