  • Awesome Music: Both the 1st OP: "Sympathizer" by Minami Kuribayashi & the 2nd OP: "tRANCE" by GRANRODEO, as well as the hard rock music that activates during battle scenes.
  • Complete Monster: Lord Hiyou from The Animation is a sadistic Tera Guardian, and a member of the Shishigami clan. During his time in the Pure Place, he kidnapped humans and experimented on them, giving them the powers of other Tera Guardians to make them his Tribal Ends, which resulted in the deaths of many Guardians. Searching for a Contractee, he finds Nanase Shinobu and convinces her to kill her Roots in order to gain power and happiness; one of whom was Keita Ibuki's mother. Working for Reishin, he kidnaps hundreds of Tera Guardians to painfully drain them of their Tera in order to make more Tribal Ends, leaving the Guardians as charred corpses. Attempting to find and destroy the Tera stones, he and Nanase slaughter an entire clan of Guardians protecting one. Having a sick obsession with Kuro, Hiyou forces his Tribal Ends to capture her and kill Keita. Following the two to Okinawa after killing his assistant, he orders Nanase to kill Keita while he kidnaps Kuro and tries to rape her, and once that fails, he tortures her by popping her blood vessels.
  • Designated Hero: In the manga, where Keita's a Jerkass
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The Doppeliner system. Imagine seeing someone with your exact body and face in a crowd, only to end up dying within the following day because the world automatically declared you the expendable of the two to keep the balance. This leads to the infamously messy death of Mayu, courtesy of a truck. Even worse, Kuro knew it was coming, but also knew it would be pointless to reject the inevitable. And the cherry on top; there's also a third version of you, so even if you're lucky to survive a first encounter, all bets are off if the impossible happens for a second.
    • The severe violence poor Kuro goes through over the course of the series, especially in the manga. No one holds back in a fight, regardless of gender outside of explicit cases, so she gets her face beaten, her body pierced by ranged attacks, clawed, strangled, her arm broken... Even with her Determinator status, there's several cases where she's downright unable to continue because of how badly mangled her foes leave her.
  • Signature Scene: One of the messier outcomes of Look Both Ways came from this show.
  • Tear Jerker: The entire Twilight of The Silver Lion arc where Kuro's past is revealed. What follows next is a Heartwarming Moment.
    • In episode 12: Excel's reaction to Steiner's death. It's something to watch her emotional outburst, then see her crumble into tears when Steiner's copy flickers out of existence after carrying her to safety.
Excel: (tearing up) "Steiner? Steiner?! No! Where did you go?? DON'T LEAVE ME!!"
