For the animated series:

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: One episode featured a Mister Rogers' Neighborhood spoof called Mr. Radish. 30 years after that episode aired, a Mister Rogers spin-off called Donkey Hodie premiered. In the show, the protagonist adores a superhero character called The Amazing Radish.
  • Spiritual Successor: The Cinema Snob said it was like a modern Mr. Peabody & Sherman.
  • Memetic Mutation: "What color is an orange?" "Ted, you bonehead! It's color is the same as its name. Just like a lemon!"Explanation
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Essentially what killed the series, the second season was major re-tool as a result of switching animation companies, voice actors and tone, whereas instead of going back in time, the duo travel through stories, TV shows and the human body. Granted there was nothing wrong with trying to vary it up, but the execution was lackluster and, along with the other changes, didn't appeal to the fans of the movies, causing the season to be Cut Short and ultimately cancelled. Fox would replay the Hanna-Barbera series the following summer.

For the live-action series:

  • Values Dissonance: As pointed out by the Smeghead from Cinematic Excrement in his vlog about the series, the episode It's a Totally Wonderful Life (about Rufus accidentally splitting up Bill & Ted and finding himself in an dystopian society) depicting Alt!Ted in the wrong for busting corrupt cops had already aged poorly by the time the episode aired, which was just a few months after the Los Angeles riots caused by the Rodney King trial, but nowadays? Where concerns over police brutality have severely increased? Yeah, it's damn near embarrassing how tone-deaf the episode is.
