YMMV / Big Boss Man

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • His beloved "Hard Times" theme, which he gained following his 1990 Heel–Face Turn.
"Well if you ever take a trip down to Cobb County, Georgia, you'd better read the sign, respect the law & order; you'll serve haaaard tiiiiime..."
    • His Attitude era theme song, a heavy metal tune which perfectly fits the Boss Man's reinvention into a cruel and sadistic SWAT officer.
  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: His Heel–Face Turn in 1990. Initially appearing to help the Million Dollar Man regain his belt, he quickly realizes that Ted is basically buying him off and confronts the Million Dollar Man for his actions. He even tells Ted to his face that he may be a lot of things, but he can never be bought and is definitely not a hired thief before uncuffing Roberts and giving him back the belt.
  • Crowning Moment of Funny: An accidental one from his days as the Guardian Angel, at WCW Clash of the Champions XXX, January 25, 1995:
"That referee right there wasn't even s'posed to be in the riiiiiiiiiing!"
  • Fridge Logic: If you think about it, his Heel–Face Turn makes no sense, even with the suspension of disbelief applied to wrestling. So, Ted DiBiase playing off Slick for him to get Jake Roberts belt is bad, but apparently beating up Hulk Hogan, Dusty Rhodes and plenty of jobbers is a-okay?
  • Growing the Beard: Around the time of his WWF face turn, Boss Man started to be more of a Lightning Bruiser in the ring rather than a Wrestling Monster.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The ending of WrestleMania XV's Hell in a Cell match that involves The Undertaker "hanging" him on a noose after winning the Streak (8-0) can be very difficult to watch, since Boss Man died of a heart attack five years later.
  • Memetic Mutation: Big Bossman Behaving Badly note
  • Moral Event Horizon: Between serving Al Snow's dog to him as food and mocking the death of Big Show's father and then disrupting his funeral to steal the coffin, take your pick.
  • Never Live It Down: Involved in two of the most infamous(ly bad) cage matches in WWE history, in the same year; the Hell in a Cell match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania XV and the "Kennel From Hell" match with Al Snow at Unforgiven 99.
  • Paranoia Fuel: Jim Cornette proclaimed that even when you couldn't see Big Bubba Rogers, Rogers could see you. The fact that Rogers was eerily silent during his entire WCW run didn't help things.
  • Shocking Moments: Got superplexed by Hulk Hogan off the top of a steel cage. Now there's something you didn't see every day in The '80s.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Bret Hart pays his respects to Ray Traylor.
    • In the summer of 2016, his daughter posted a photo of her son holding a box containing his grandfather's action figure, with the caption saying that he didn't know he was his grandfather. Yet.
  • X-Pac Heat: Sadly, considering that he was a pretty awesome guy in real life. But his late '90s Karma Houdini heel run and declining workrate led to the fans not wanting to see him, to the point people like Jim Cornette (who worked with him in his NWA sting) said that the trope was originally called "Boss Man Heat" until X-Pac came along a couple years later.
