YMMV / Beyblade X

Go To

  • Diagnosed by the Audience: Several fans have pegged Ekusu as autistic, and it's not hard to see why - he has a near-total fixation on Blading with little regard to anything else, has a tendency to forget something unless it's specifically brought up, a lack of understanding of social cues, and has oddly delighted reactions to meeting strong opponents.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Despite of having little screen time, Toguro Okunaga received a decent amount of fanart shortly after his debut thanks to his peculiar Creepy Cute snake-themed design and his surprisingly wholesome dynamic with the rest of Team Zooganic.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Bird somehow losing every battle for twenty-seven episodes despite obtaining the Hells line of Beys, when in reality the versatility of Hells Scythe has actually made it the meta Bey that has one of the highest win rates.
  • Ho Yay:
    • Bird and Ekusu get this as part of the Bromantic Foil package: they end up sleeping in the same room (which immediately gets lampshaded), they regularly get chummy despite only forming a team relatively recently, and Ekusu is a Cuddle Bug who heartily hugs Bird in several episodes. Ekusu also shows a surprising degree of attachment towards a Bird despite the latter still being a far cry from the Worthy Opponent that Ekusu is looking for.
    • Chrome is understandably shocked about Ekusu leaving Team Pendragon, but their conversation prior to it implies that Chrome would rather have Ekusu by his side and share the title of the strongest with him, rather than have him be just another strong rival from an opposing team. The complete absence of the third member of Team Pendragon in such an important occasion further suggests that Chrome and Ekusu were much closer than mere colleagues. And a flashback in Episode 20 notes a bit of surprise from Chrome when Ekusu notes that sushi and Beyblading are the only things he loves.
    • Burn uses some flowery language when he recruits Nekoyama, even calling him his kindred spirit.
    • After being defeated by Multi, Yuni practically falls heads over heels for her fellow Beyblading Influencer.
    • Burn outright adores Ekusu who, upon meeting him for the first time, just hugs him both before and after their match.
  • Launcher of a Thousand Ships: Is it funny or ironic that Ekusu's defining letter is X considering all of the ship tease he gets between his old teammates, his new teammates, and his rivals.
  • LGBT Fanbase: Multi's androgynous design and rainbow motif had garnered her a modest trans following.
  • Memetic Loser: Bird has earned this reputation for his lengthy and currently still ongoing losing streak and his abysmal win-loss record. By episode 27, he has a win-loss record of 0 wins and 25 losses (In terms of fully shown battles, as his incompletely-shown battles typically have him losing even more matches in rapid succession), which is both the longest losing streak and the worst win-loss record in the entire franchise, bar none, which is only made more noticeable thanks to his status as this series' deuteragonist. To make matters worse, episodes 9 and 10 make it seem like the writers are finally going to throw Bird a bone and have him win a battle, with the former calling attention to his losing streak and having him receive an upgraded Bey in the form of Hells Chain, and the latter setting him up to finally get revenge on Team Phalanx for destroying his initial Bey, Strike Hawk, only for him to lose against Multi in the former, and for Ekusu to once again singlehandedly sweep Team Phalanx, with Bird not even participating in the match despite everyone around him telling him that he's finally going to get his revenge in the latter. Not only that, when he does have a chance at revenge against Takumi, he still loses though was closer than before, and Takumi's purposely exhausting himself.
  • Memetic Mutation: Beyblade TwitterExplanation
  • Narm Charm: One wouldn't expect the idea of a bunch of Beys being shipped out all over a city to shift the current meta to be so scary on paper, even for a series like Beyblade where Mundane Made Awesome is the norm. But Episode 17 manages to handle this idea very effectively, with a constant ominous tone set throughout the episode from the Phoenix Feather distribution and the various Pro Bladers' reactions to them as if a war was coming, Burn's enigmatic actions and thoughts on the whole process only adding even more tension, and the music and imagery from Bird's point of view and his terrified reactions truly giving the idea of one's world they were familiar with changing drastically and being unable to do a thing about it, as detailed below in Nightmare Fuel.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Episode 17. While the sudden appearance of the Purposely Overpowered Phoenix Feather distributed throughout X City has the Pro Bladers on the ropes, Bird takes it the worst due to not only experiencing its power first-hand but also being unable to contact his teammates about it afterwards, suffering a panic attack all alone as he runs into Bladers and billboards all showing Phoenix Feather no matter where he flees. The final Kick the Dog moment happens when he returns to Komabazushi still alone, only to find a lone Phoenix Feather delivered to the shop waiting for him. His bloodcurdling scream to this says it all. Not helping is the blood red lighting of Komabazushi and the following view of the X Tower as said scream rings out, making the final scenes feel more like a horror movie or a borderline apocalyptic event.
  • One True Threesome: On top of their Ho Yay, Bird and Ekusu admiring Multi in unison and she in turn showing genuine delight in working and spending time with the two of them despite their quirks leads some shippers to shipping the whole Power Trio.
