- Awesome Music: "Shakedown" by Bob Seger plays over Axel's introduction and it is glorious.
- Best Known for the Fanservice: This is the one where the heroes confront the villains at the Playboy Mansion. So Women in bikinis playing volleyball is par for the course.
- Critical Dissonance: It was one of the most successful films of 1987, despite mixed critical reaction (Siskel & Ebert, who liked the first one, named it one of the worst films of that year).
- Moment of Awesome: Billy verbally tearing the Jerkass Chief Lutz a new one at the end of the film, resulting in the Mayor of Beverly Hills firing Lutz on the spot.
- Also, Axel's parting words as Lutz slinks away with Biddle behind him.
Axel: Are they civilians now?Mayor: You bet.Axel (yelling after Lutz): I'MA KICK YOUR ASS LATER! - Harsher in Hindsight: The villains' visas are dated 9/11, 1986.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Despite their thin characterization, Dent and Karla are probably the best-liked villains in the series due to Dent's Criminal Mind Games and Karla's Dark Action Girl moments and Statuesque Stunner appearance.
- One-Scene Wonder:
- Gilbert Gottfried as Dent's accountant.
- Also, Chris Rock as the playboy mansion valet.
- Retroactive Recognition:
- Chris Rock, in only his second film appearance, as a valet.
- Comedian Brian O'Connor, who would later go on to play the Large Ham Schemer on children's show Shining Time Station, plays Chief Lutz's hapless lackey, Biddle.
- So Okay, It's Average: Eddie Murphy himself deemed the film to be this, and most critics and viewers concurred. The film is generally agreed to feature a lot of very funny moments and good action sequences, but let down by featuring the bare minimum of an Excuse Plot to tie it all together, along with the villains tending to be very thinly characterized.
- What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: Believe it or not, this movie won 2 Kids' Choice Awards (Favorite Movie/Favorite Movie Actor).
