  • Older Than They Think: This wasn't the first Lucy-Desi Biopic. There was the 1991 Made-for-TV Movie Lucy and Desi: Before the Laughter, with Frances Fisher as Lucille Ball and Maurice Benard (who went on to play General Hospital's Sonny Corinthos) as Desi Arnaz. Then in 2003 came Lucy, starring Rachel York and Danny Pino, produced by the same team who made Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows.
  • Padding: Lucille having an Imagine Spot of the iconic grape stomping scene in I Love Lucy. It occurs in the middle of an important meeting on far more pressing matters, but for some reason Lucille takes her time to really fixate on this. It ultimately feels like it's only there so that Nicole Kidman can reenact one of Lucy's most famous moments.
  • Questionable Casting:
    • There was a lot of criticism when Nicole Kidman was first announced to be playing Lucille Ball. While she won detractors over when they actually saw the film, her performance didn't fully evade criticism.
    • Javier Bardem also struck some as an odd choice for Desi Arnaz, though this was mostly overshadowed by discussion of his co-lead's casting and his performance was ultimately praised.
