• Fan-Preferred Couple: More fans like Terri and Ricky a lot better than they like Terri and Rashad (her husband in the third movie).
• Moral Event Horizon: In the first movie, the Stupid Crooks' antics of JD and his partner as they try to break into an ATM with no money inside make them somewhat amusing and pitiable. Then, JD finds out that his innocent ex-convict cousin (who is in danger of going to prison for life under the Three Strikes law) is being blamed for their theft and laughs about it.
• Retroactive Recognition: Keke Palmer made her acting debut in the second Barbershop film as Gina's niece.
  • Deon Cole showed up in a bit part in the first two movies, but in the third film, he reprises the same role with a larger presence.
