• Gateway Series:
  • Axis and Allies: 1941 is a variation of the game designed to be simpler in setup and gameplay to make it easier for new players to get into the series.
  • Similarly, the original Axis and Allies is often viewed as a "stepping stone" on the way to more complex and detailed tabletop wargames.
  • The PC game also fits this, as it's a relatively simple RTS, with few unique units, no farmable resources (the only resources, ammo, fuel, and money, are generated by buildings), and fairly small caps to both buildings and units meaning the player has to come up with strategies other than the Zerg Rush.
