YMMV / Avril’s Appetite

Go To

  • Funny Moments: The Avril's Appetite beta has some humor derived from just how unfinished it is.
    • The appearance of the beta is punctuated by someone comically screaming, presumably at its poor quality.
    • The Beta Avril's belching sound effect still has the Audiojungle watermark sound attached to it.
    • Text-to-speech programs read out the beta Avril's dialogue quickly and without emotion, befitting how disinterested the Avril looks. At one point, one of them suddenly reads the dialogue in Spanish.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The endgame sees the player abuse a glitch in Idol Idle, which lets them finally force-feed Avril cake again. She's angry at first, trying once more to overload the game with junk data to save herself... But even with the game coming apart at the seams, the scoreboard remains intact, as does its glitch. There is nothing left for the player to do but rapidly force-feed Avril cake; upon realizing this, Avril fearfully begs for the player to stop, even as they persist. The lighting and the unsettling music makes the final weight-gain sequence uncomfortable to watch, even for those who enjoy the kinks the game appeals to. Eventually, Avril becomes so large that she bursts out of her clothes; she's barely conscious, but she has enough fight in her to resist swallowing the last slices of cake... But her reflexes activate, she takes in three slices at once, and she expands so much that the game runs out of memory and crashes—killing Avril. If there is any doubt left regarding her fate, attempting to launch the game again through its original shortcut will prompt an ominous error:
    • The creepier aspects of Avril's Appetite are mostly cerebral, but there are a few easter eggs that are outright scary.
      • During a second playthrough, a dark figure sneaks into some of the cutscenes. They are rather nondescript except for their jester hat, cape, and eyes, which have massive irises. Most significantly, their silhouette is now reflected within Avril's eyes when she begins hurling insults at the player, implying that they are the one responsible for Avril's predicament. And after completing the second playthrough, the player can attempt to launch Donut Date 2, upon which they'll be met with loud buzzing and an image of the Jester overtaking the screen and staring right at them. The figure then causes the game to crash, as if there is something within Donut Date 2 that they really don't want people to find.
      • The mascot of Gotis Publishing is a rather crude drawing of a Capybara, but there's a mysterious air surrounding it even before the horror of it and its company becomes clear. It is the final enemy to encounter during Idol Idle, once Avril destroys the boulder, and it avoids every one of her attacks. Later, it will have a chance to appear in the bestiary shown at the end of the game. If it does, the player will be taken to a foreboding mini-game where the player navigates through empty folders to find a picture of it. The background transforms from the tranquil hills on a cloudy day to a gruesome drawing of a Capybara's skull, with veins and tendons falling from its bottom. Upon the player finding the Capybara sprite, the game crashes. Evidently, Gotis Publishing has some malevolent force tied to it, and it may have something to do with the equally mysterious Jester that appears during a second playthrough of the game.
  • The Woobie: Many players admitted to feeling sorry for what Avril goes through. She has aspirations that are completely at odds with what is expected out of her in this kind of fetish game. While she puts up a fight and seems able to forge a better life for herself during the Idol Idle segment, the program is still ultimately in control of things, and it eventually has its way with her in the end. The second it's able to, the game makes up for lost time by forcing cake down her throat without any room for her to breathe. It leads to Avril's very abrupt end after being at her happiest for most of the game. Because Lachevite's characters recur in their content after they're introduced, it's not uncommon to see people wishing Avril will someday have an escape, so she can fulfill her dreams in peace.
