  • Awesome Music: Me Mum, the film's main theme, a melancholy yet energetic instrumental piece that perfectly encapsulates the overall tone of the movie.
  • Growing the Beard: A lot of critics found this film to be director Jesse V. Johnson's best film in his three year collaborations with Scott Adkins.
  • He Really Can Act: Scott Adkins proves he can do more than just martial arts, with his performance as Cain Burgress showing his range from hardened criminal to depressed son mourning his dying mother.
  • Moment of Awesome: It'd be easy to say any fight scene is this, but one bit that stands out is when Cain, after beating yet another contingent of prisoners after Lincoln's bounty, is confronted by a line of guards in riot gear stretching from from wall to wall... at which point he screams defiantly and hurls himself at the line, taking out several guards before being subdued.
  • Nausea Fuel: In the same vein as American History X, the scene where Cain's fellow prisoners force him to bite a steel stairway and break all his teeth by stomping on his head is brutally depicted.
  • Special Effect Failure: While the film manages to hide its low budget fairly well, it's clear the darkness outside the bar is just a black sheet on a set instead of legitimate city darkness. It's made all the more obvious in shots of the bar's open door, which show no lights from adjacent buildings despite being on a crowded London street.
  • Tear Jerker: "I'd like to see my mother." note  It doesn't get much better for Cain from there.
