- Broken Base:
- Whether or not Sombra's backsliding is believable given everything that happened or has happened too many times resulting in becoming Too Bleak, Stopped Caring.
- Uber Sombra performing a Body Surf into Cadence. Some view it as a needless twist adding more reactions of Too Bleak, Stopped Caring to the story, others view it as a natural climax that gives Sombra a chance to properly atone for murdering the Princess he was sworn to protect by saving another Princess.
- Fridge Horror: If Cadence wants to kill Sombra for what he's done, one can only imagine what she wants to do to Chrysalis and the changelings.
- Genius Bonus: Sombra doesn't know what chocolate is, which makes sense, as in Real Life it wasn't introduced to Europe until about five hundred years ago, during which time Sombra and the Crystal Empire would still have been sealed away.
- Heartwarming Moments:
- Drizzle and Sea Breeze being reunited with their parents.
- In spite of everything Sombra's parents kept his old jousting helmet. Added points for Coffee Talk stealing it to show Sombra.
- While brief, due to urgency, Sombra FINALLY getting Coffee Talk's name right counts. Not only does it defuse her anger, it's even enough to get her to hear him out, and explain the situation about Uber Sombra.
- It being revealed that the returning Caribbean Splash knew Sombra's true identity since they left, and was just hoping Luna's plan had succeeded, and that he believes Sombra's sincere about his Heel–Face Turn.
- Showing just how far he's come: Sombra choosing not to risk killing Cadence and try instead to convince her to reject the Uber entity. When that fails, he opts instead to sacrifice himself by luring Uber into him so the Heart can be used to defeat him.
- In a cameo in Ask Movie Slate it's revealed Coffee Talk and Kingsley/Sombra got married.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: In the show, specifically the Cheese Sandwhich episode, during Cheese's "I Am" Song he's show in a police line-up. One of the ponies has very similar coloring to Coffee Talk, and is even wearing a green sweater.
- Moment of Awesome:
- Sombra finally accepting the awful things he did, and giving a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown to Uber Sombra.
- Sombra sacrificing himself to permanently destroy Uber Sommbra.
- Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: The amount of backsliding Sombra makes has caused this for some viewers. Whenever it looks like Sombra is going to truly change, Uber Sombra or other outside interference results in him backsliding, ending with him invading the Empire after trapping Coffee Swirl in a crystal. And when Sombra finally does undergo lasting Character Development and decides to expel Uber Sombra for good, it quickly turns out to be All for Nothing: Uber Sombra simply escapes and finds a different host (Cadance).
- The Woobie: Coffee Talk, at least at the start of the comic. She's been kidnapped by King Sombra and forced to host his talk show (he's that crazy) when all she wanted to do was report on the Crystal Empire (she's a reporter). Not only does she have to put up with Sombra's craziness, it's revealed that King Sombra was blown to bits by the Crystal Heart after absorbing Coffee Talk in his shadow form, and now both of them are trapped inside his imagination in the horn fragment that was sent flying by the explosion, and Coffee Talk may be trapped forever. Worse yet, the Princesses are aware of her predicament but incapable of actually helping her. As if all that isn't enough, she runs into a part of Sombra's mind that gives her a Breaking Lecture. The poor girl just can't catch a break!
