YMMV / As Aventuras De Poliana

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Is Poliana really optimistic or she’s nothing but a Sad Clown with anxiety issues that tries way too hard to ignore the negativity of the world by reinforcing toxic positivity? And the fact that she’s openly more insecure and easily frightened than most interpretations of the character(including her book counterpart), certainly does not help matters.

  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Poliana herself. Some fans think she’s a lovable protagonist while others believe she’s annoying, way too talkative and the least interesting part of the series. She became even more divisive when Poliana Moça first premiered, with many fans disliking her now for either being a Bratty Teenage Daughter or a Flat Character who is solely defined by her romantic life.
    • Although Filipa is still extremely hated by many for being a shallow and vapid villain character with barely any redeeming qualities, some people grew to like her because of her being pretty, incredibly charismatic and for having surprisingly funny one liners.
    • The introduction of Pinóquio in the sequel series Poliana Moça has sparked a lot of debates online with many accusing him of being annoying, useless, way too one dimensional and because he constantly overshadowed Poliana and the rest of the main cast while others don’t have a problem with him and think he pays a nice homage to the character he’s based on.

  • Broken Base:
    • The series as a whole is either considered one of the last good kid friendly soap operas produced by SBT or the worst one due to being based on a classic book instead of a foreign soap opera like the others that came before it and for being just as overexposed as the 2012 remake of Carrusel when comes to promos and merchandising.
    • Among fans of Pollyanna; is it a good adaptation or a total bastardization of a literature classic?

  • Just Here for Godzilla: A lot of people only watched Poliana Moça because of João and Poliana’s relationship, the same goes for people who shipped Poliana with Eric instead.

  • Older than You Think:

  • Replacement Scrappy: Several fans of the first series consider newcomers Helena and Song from Poliana Moça to be this for Filipa and Yasmin.

  • Sequelitis: Poliana Moça fit this trope, especially if compared to the book it was supposed to be based on(Pollyanna Grows Up was already rather divisive, though). Many fans of the book and even fans of the first series dislike it for its bad writing, inconsistent characterization, the lack of focus, too many subplots happening at once, Poliana becoming an useless main character, for being tamer than the first series and because of the introduction of Pinóquio to the main cast which was allegedly made to cash in the "Pinocchio craze" from 2022.

  • Signature Scene: The infamous scene where counselor Helô tells Kessya that racism is in the head of black people it’s perhaps the most widely well known moment among general audiences(including those who have never watched this series)…for the worst reasons imaginable.

  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Many fans of the book dislike the changes this series made such as the increasingly amount of focus on silly teen conflicts and technology, the confusing messages, the title character becoming your typical Naive Every Girl main character rather than a Plucky Girl who is able to help others with her kindness, for misinterpreting the concept of the glad game and because some episodes abruptly change the context or even events of the book. note .
