YMMV / Arrow S 6 E 9 Irreconcilable Differences

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor: Seeing the Season 5 additions get kicked out since a lot of the fans don't like them (except Ragman), especially the focus they've been taking away from the original cast members. Unfortunately, Oliver handles it in such a paranoid and dickish manner that it's hard not to side with them.
  • Designated Evil: While spying on teammates was a dick move the fact remains that someone from the team betrayed them and Oliver had to find the traitor ASAP. What's more the betrayal wasn't unprecedented as Artemis did this in the past.
  • Glurge: As said below, the wedding reception really overplays how in love Oliver and Felicity actually are. Compare this to another CW series where Barry and Iris are in more or less the same spot in life, but their scenes are executed in a much more natural way that better conveys two people who love each other.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Black Siren revealing that Earth-2 Quentin has been dead, since the episode aired only two weeks after the death of Katie Cassidy's real life father.
  • Romantic Plot Tumor: Almost as if overcompensating for the audience's reaction against Oliver and Felicity for stealing the spotlight during Barry and Iris's wedding, the first act of the episode features a big bombastic wedding reception in Star City, with everyone gushing over just how in love Oliver and Felicity are. Taken as a counterpoint, the first episode of The Flash after the wedding saw Barry and Iris settling in to their new life, along with a quick jab that they aren't as okay with Felicity selfishly interrupting their ceremony as they appeared, and a simple recognition that the two are completely happy as husband and wife.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Both sides of Team Arrow. Oliver blindly decides Diggle and Felicity would never go against him, even though they have, while on the Recruits' end; Rene disobeys orders and sold out the team and Dinah immediately goes to Vigilante after leaving, despite him being even worse than Oliver even when one doesn't know he's working with James.
