- Alternative Character Interpretation:
- It's easy to interpret the whole story as Gary being a massive Troll to get the Game Boy for himself.
- Sophie has more characterization than the other game characters resembling people in the mall. Is she actually trapped in the game too?
- Do Not Do This Cool Thing: Ross having to act out a real life pin ball game actually looks quite fun - since it appears the bosses can't hurt him (or Sophie for that matter) and the worst thing that happens is he gets sent back to the first level.
- Fridge Brilliance: The game characters corresponding to people Ross encounters in the mall actually makes sense - considering Mr Olsen works there and would know most of them very well. Sophie likewise is implied to be a regular customer of his, so he'd know her too.
- Fridge Horror: It's mentioned that Mr Olsen had to fire a previous bad employee called Steve. Did he end up trapped in the game too?
- It Was His Sled: It's another Gary story that's famous for having a Downer Ending - in this case Ross being stuck in the game forever.
- One-Scene Wonder: The Witch only appears as a secondary antagonist, but she's got a memorable design and her actress is delightfully hammy.
- Unintentional Period Piece: You don't get more early 90s than characters obsessing over a Game Boy in the framing device, or a teen who's extremely into pinball. The in-universe game's plot is very simplistic - consisting of Save the Princess - obviously made during the First Generation Era.
