YMMV / Archie Sonic Online

Go To

  • Ass Pull: Eggman has a bio-analyzer, a piece of equipment conveniently crucial to de-roboticizing Sally, which is never seen or mentioned before even if it could be inferred. The writers admitted to the tropes, but said they did the best they could to fit in to pre-existing rules of Roboticization.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Metal Sonic ordering Mecha Sally to self-destruct is this, since the override passcode has "MAKESONICSUFFER" thrown in a code for "STH249".
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: A more meta case, but the fans certainly grew attached to ASO's April Fools 2020 joke; Tammy Prose, a fusion of both Tails and Amy.
  • Fandom Rivalry:
    • A rivalry has developed between this comic and Sonic Retold, a similar Archie Sonic continuation.
    • One also developed with Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW) when one of the moderators basically said fans of that comic had low standards, which many saw as unprofessional. This tends to be an extension of the much larger rivalry between fans of Archie Sonic in general and IDW Sonic.
  • Friendly Fandoms: On the other hand, fans of this comic do tend to get on well with those of Sonic the Comic – Online! — a similar online continuation of the British Fleetway comics — to the point where the two series have had official crossover art and frequently recommend their respective works to each other.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Evil Sonic pulling a Dead Person Impersonation on Sonic in an alternate post #125 after his Heroic Sacrifice. Even if this is just a What If?, this is very much something he would do.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Ixis Naugus possessing Geoffrey St. John to begin mutating just like him to the point that he starts to resemble a fusion monster.
    • Before that, there's his reaction when he finds out from Silver that Geoffrey was the one who helped the Secret Freedom Fighters. To say he is angry would be an understatement.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Though Word of God said that ASO wouldn't be so keen on utilizing pre-existing fan characters, they made a special exception in Mobius Legends #5 "Protegegg", by introducing the infamous Sonic Mania Ascended Meme, "Eggette".
    • While she has only appeared in a non-canon story, the appearance of Elise in "Triggered" still took many by surprise. Especially given how most fanworks prefer to ignore her entirely due to her being The Scrappy.
