YMMV / Arca

Go To

  • Creepy Awesome: As weird and frightening as a lot of Arca's music and art in general is, her work's still amazing enough to be able to gain a huge number of followers.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • With SOPHIE. Both artists are transgender musicians who specialize in Uncanny Valley, that both spent years making a name for themselves as producers before eventually stepping out as pop stars in their own right. Sophie and Arca would eventually join forces on the track "La Chíqui", from the latter's album KiCk i.
    • Also with Björk, which makes a lot of sense, as they're good friends and collaborators in real life.
  • Funny Moments: The video for "Mequetrefe" has Arca using the content aware scale among other things in bizarre and hilarious ways.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Waste" gained some traction by being used in the "at the barbershop, man" meme.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The intro to "Mutant" has glitchy bass sounds over frantic, distorted... something. It's impossible to tell what it is, but it's damn scary.
    • Entrañas has several jarring moments, But "Turnt" takes the cake. It has what sounds like a woman yelling for her life while Arca sings an ominous melody.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • A lot of Arca, the self-titled album from 2017, especially "Coraje", "Sin rumbo" or "Fugaces".
    • "Calor", while somber, is still a romantic ballad about finding love with her then-boyfriend. This live performance, after they broke up, reimagines the song as a slow dirge where Arca sounds like on the verge of crying. But the clincher is the last line, which gets changed from "Eres el dueño de todo mi ser" ("You are the owner of my whole being") to "Yo soy la dueña de todo mi ser" ("I am the owner of my whole being").
