- Game-Breaker: Every group has its own unique sense of humor. Somewhere in that massive pile of red cards, there is a noun which plays perfectly to your group, and will win every hand it is played in, without fail. (It's frequently Helen Keller.) This is self-reinforcing if your group finds the idea of an instant-win card humorous as well.
- Popular Game Variant: As a game played for laughs more than anything else, there are several popular house rule addendums.
- Once per game a judge can swap green cards during the judging phase without warning anyone.
- Another is to throw in a random card from the draw pile into the pile of cards for judging. The draw pile is amazingly capable of winning.
- Or putting in the red cards before anyone knows what the green card is.
- Inverting the roles of the cards, so adjectives describe a noun, is very popular.
- Put in a pair of red cards, and the judge describes how they think the pair relates to the green card.
- The game gives a list of how many green cards a player should gain to win the game based on how many people are playing, but very few people actually use that limit and just play until everybody agrees to stop.
- This Is Your Premise on Drugs: Cards Against Humanity, an indie game that is basically Apples to Apples turned up to eleven. Also counts as Refuge in Audacity, for some (read: most) of the cards in CAH.
