YMMV / Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Testing Initiative

  • Awesome Music: Almost all negative reviews say that the one good thing was the game's music. Take "Complete the Circuit" for example.
  • It's Easy, So It Sucks!: The game teaches the player few new mechanics, so all you really need to know is bouncing off walls and the running jump.
  • Fanon: Due to the player character never being given a proper name in-game, fans have taken to referring to her as Test Subject 18, the number taken from the Relaxation Vault you start the campaign off in.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: One of the most common complaints in reviews was that it was short. It can literally be completed in less than an hour. This is more of an issue because it actually costs money, unlike most mods.
  • Level Breaker: Possibly the most dramatic moment in the game, the 50 second speed run after disabling the ALSSER can be potentially ruined if the player is curious enough to wonder what a certain button on the wall does: it replaces the 50 second speed run with a 50 second cut scene of the speed run. It doesn't help that it isn't obvious what the button does, and there's no way to undo it.
  • Moment of Awesome: The speed run after disabling the ALSSER. 50 seconds to get out of there, which is just enough time. It's without a doubt the most action packed level. At the same time, if your reflexes are anything less than lightning-fast, this segment can easily become That One Level, making the button that skips it a welcome reprieve.
  • That One Level: The space chamber, which is fittingly the last test chamber before the final level, has a surprisingly deceptive amount of spatial problem solving. Nigel even brings mention to the fact in-game, claiming whoever designed the level had evil intentions in mind.
  • The Scrappy: A lot of players find Nigel annoying or simply hate him for being an unfunny substitute for Wheatley.
