  • And You Thought It Would Fail: Dr. Seuss had a hard time getting a publisher interested in the book and was rejected by at least 20 publishing houses. In fact, Seuss was about to give up and burn the book in frustration when he met an old friend from his alma mater by chance who was just starting at Vanguard Press, which had a policy of publishing unusual books which were rejected by competitors. They took a chance and while the book was not a runaway bestseller, it got considerable praise and started Dr. Seuss' career as a beloved children's author.
