• Anti-Climax Boss: Ruby's husband in the last scene. All that happens is he shows up, stabs Mary and she rips his neck open with her teeth.
• Complete Monster: Dr. Alan Grant and his partner Dr. Walsh are a pair of twisted and corrupt surgeons, behind their image of stern but reasonable teachers. To give a lesson about breaking bad news, Walsh has Mary falsely tell a patient's family that their father/husband has died in surgery. Later, Grant and Walsh invite Mary to a party for their clique, where the female attendees are all drugged and raped while being filmed. Grant himself rapes and films Mary, while Walsh pleasures himself over a woman being gang-raped. The assault causes Mary's own downward spiral of as her first victim is Grant himself. An investigation into their "disappearances" reveals Grant and Walsh have been regularly hosting these "sex parties" with multiple victims before Mary.
• Fetish Retardant: Billy seems to unintentionally inflict this on himself every time he fantasizes about Mary - first with her pouring blood over herself after a pole dance, and then later with her kissing him only to stab him with a scalpel.
• Fridge Horror: During the ending, Ruby's husband, enraged at her surgery, beats Beatress to within an inch of her life and murders Mary. If he did that to them, what did he do to his wife? It's entirely possible that he didn't hurt her, of course, but with a temper like that, who knows?
• Jerkass Woobie: Mary. Can you blame her? After getting raped, she got pushed over the edge and slowly becomes more dark and twisted.
• Moral Event Horizon:
  • What Dr. Grant did to Mary. Remember, Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil.
  • Arguably everyone throwing the party, considering they were in on it. In the scenes in the background, they were all raping the drugged out girls and filming it themselves.
• Narm: The Soska Sisters really shouldn't have given their characters... whatever the Hell their accents were supposed to be.
• Strangled by the Red String: Mary shows either contempt or indifference towards Billy's advances, until she roughs up and nearly stabs one of the sex workers at his club for giving him head. Seeing as she hasn't shown any indication that she's interested in him so far and their "romance" is incredibly brief and pointless, the whole thing is rather jarring.
• Tearjerker:
  • Mary finding out that her nana passed away.
  • The ending. Shortly after she shows a hint of wanting to get out of her shady business, Mary is fatally stabbed by Ruby's husband and ends up bleeding out while desperately trying to sew up her wound.
