YMMV / Amelia's Notebook

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Is Cleo really as terrible as Amelia makes her out to be, or is she a more or less ordinary girl whose bad habits are exaggerated by Amelia? It's noteworthy that Cleo comes off as a lot nicer in later books, and she and Amelia fight significantly less. This implies that Amelia's perception of Cleo has gotten a lot less biased as the two have matured.
  • Seasonal Rot: Many see the middle school-era books as this. The very noticeable Schedule Slip doesn't help.
  • Tearjerker: Amelia's uncertainty as to whether or not her father loves her can be really hard to read.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: When Amelia visits Chicago in Amelia's Family Ties, she sees cow sculptures all over the city. This was an actual public art exhibit that happened the year before the book was published.
  • The Woobie: Amelia can sometimes cross into this, usually whenever she and Carly are fighting. Their blow-up in Notes and Note-Passing really deserves a special mention. It is a Whole-Plot Reference to Othello, after all.
