  • Difficulty Spike: Regular monsters start having a lot more health and start dishing out more damage after obtaining the ship.
  • It's Easy, So It Sucks!: One of the main complaints of the game. So long as equipment is upgraded, most battles can be won using Auto-Battle, even after the Difficulty Spike.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • The Double Attack skill at Wind Level 50 can be learned by anyone- naturally for Wied and anyone else with a Wind Ring Alpha- two physical attacks per turn without any speed loss from casting Energi Skills makes most battles nearly trivial.
    • Dark Curtain. It is the Level 9 Dark Skill and can easily be learned by anyone with just a Dark Ring Gamma. It negates any magic attack aimed at the person it's cast on and does not wear off over time. It's essential for surviving against the Superboss.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Emperor Leon crosses it when he has a town razed and nearly everyone in it killed for no viable reason once he's confronted.
    • Maxim crosses it right before the final battle when he stabs Shion and absorbs her into his body.
  • Nightmare Fuel: In many cases of the Nothing Is Scarier variety as the game's graphics aren't advanced enough to show directly what is happening, leaving it entirely up to the player's imagination.
    • The people of Centaurus being rounded up to be used as guinea pigs. Many people lost count of how many were taken, but the team manages to only rescue three!
    • One side quest involves helping a woman escape her stalker. From the way he spoke, it sounded like he was getting ready to break into her house and rape her if she didn't get away in time.
    • Emperor Leon razing a town while the heroes can only watch as the townsfolk, including children, attempt to escape in vain.
    • The basements of both of Vanessa's labs are more like a Womb Level and have failed experiments running loose.
    • The final boss, looking like an amalgam of numerous beasts, but the clincher is a half dead-looking Shion partially absorbed into its body.
  • Player Punch: Shion's death and learning about Ash's fate during the ending.
  • Tear Jerker: Several!
    • Denim sacrificing himself for his kids at the very start of the game. It's later revealed he was executed.
    • The fate of the citizens of Centaurus.
    • Shion's mother relating the tale of how she died and how Leon went mad.
    • Victor requesting Ash to kill him to both remove the barrier on Maxim's castle and as a case of Dying as Yourself.
    • Shion's death at the end.
  • That One Level: Any of the tower dungeons can qualify due to their sheer tedium: At least twice as long as any other dungeon and spanning multiple floors, filled with dead ends and door puzzles, and the game's high encounter rate makes it very easy to lose track of exactly where you are and what you're trying to do.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: A beginner's JRPG with colorful graphics, but this game is dark!
