YMMV / All Your Ruins

• Evil Is Cool: For a given definition of evil. Zarius is pretty much the face of this story, and for good reason.
• Friendly Fandoms: Avid kaiju novel fans love this one, particularly enjoyers of The Atomic Time of Monsters and Daikaiju Yuki. Then again, the authors of all three stories are good friends, so it makes sense.
• Heartwarming Moments: Allison and Jenna's entire relationship. It's what makes them the most morally alright of the entire cast.
  • On that note, James finds comfort in traveling with them in spite of the rocky start. Despite his complete loss of faith in anything, he still has the heart to take them to safety.
  • Zarius' offspring reacting with giddy joy upon meeting its parent. Even the giant kaiju seems intrigued by this development. Sadly, it's cut short by the little one's untimely death.
  • In a strange way, the ending. Most of everyone we know is dead, but James died happy killing Zarius, while Jenna found a kindly man/kaiju fungus hybrid willing to transform her and take away all of the pain, and it does. It's also implied that this being is Ronald having been taken over by the Blight, but instead of a horrible beast, out came something empathetic.
• Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: For some, the oppressively dark tone and character death can be a bit much for readers. Then again, a story like this doesn't exactly lend itself to really happy moments.
