• Ensemble Dark Horse: Maki Ueda and Jackie Sato were not regarded as the best of fighters, nor the most engaging speakers, they weren't even considered to be the best dancers AJW booked. But something about them as a team, perhaps the perception that they were underdogs, caused them to connect with the crowds like none of their contemporaries could.
• Fandom Rivalry: While GAEA was its main competitor, JWP and LLPW had its most vocal rival fandoms, fans of the FMW women's division to a lesser extent. While respectable promotions, JWP and LLPW were not able to fill the void after Zenjo and GAEA closed down, leaving Japan without a national women's promotion.
• Franchise Original Sin: In the early 90s, AJW decided to market itself towards adult men rather than its traditional audience of schoolgirls. The wrestling of this era was highly regarded and they sold a lot of tickets, but fewer young girls among the audience meant fewer girls who were interested in becoming wrestlers, leading to a dearth of talent as the current crop aged and retired. Though women's wrestling in Japan never hit the nadir that it did in the US, it never again reached the heights it did in the 80s and 90s, and AJW itself closed its doors in 2005.
