YMMV / All American: Homecoming

Go To

  • Awesome Moments: The Bringston chant. "I AM! I AM! BRILLIANT! BRILLIANT! I AM! I AM! A LEADER! A LEADER! I AM! BLACK EXCELLENCE! WE ARE! BRINGSTON LIONS! And can't nobody...mess with our pride!
  • Foe Yay Shipping: A fair few sparks fly between Simone and Thea.
  • Funny Moments: After a pro tennis player stops by to pull a bitch routine with Thea, then leaves:
Simone: Thea, as your friend...I hate her.
Thea: That's the nicest thing you've ever said to me. Thank you.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Damon, who was running to be team captain by virtue of being the star pitcher who gave up the pros to play at Bringston, ends up recognizing J.R.'s leadership qualities and instead nominates him on the spur of the moment. J.R. is immediately elected unanimously.
    • After Damon clashes with new catcher Santiago, they talk it out after volunteering with some kids. But the pitcher/catcher relationship is really cemented when Santiago correctly predicts the runner on first will attempt to steal and proposes an outside pitch meant for him to immediately fire to second and get the last out. Marcus nixes it on the grounds that if Santiago doesn't succeed, the man on third will steal home, but Santiago implores Damon to trust him to make the play. Damon takes the leap, and the Bringston baseball team notches their first victory since the cheating scandal left them in disarray.
      • Followed by a nice moment from Coach Marcus, who naturally has to address the fact that two of his players disobeyed a direct order.
Marcus: Good game, gentlemen. And since you all having trouble hearing, I need y'all to be here at 6 a.m. tomorrow for laps. [smiles] But good game.
  • Tearjerker: The whole situation with Damon's dad, who's suffering from early-onset Alzheimer's. Xavier's not that old — the actor who plays him is only 54 — but already the disease has progressed so far that he thinks Damon is his deceased younger brother.
