• Awesome Music: Lily Chou-Chou's beautuful and atmospheric music, composed by Takeshi Kobayashi and sung by Salyu, enhances the emotional weight of the characters.
• Unintentional Period Piece: Of Japan during the early-2000s. The obvious example this film provided is the usage of Discman that the main characters use, and a scene where the characters discuss about the then-recently released PlayStation 2.
• The Woobie: Tsuda is blackmailed into doing compensated dating for Hoshino after his people take videos of her being raped. She forms a friendship with Yuichi, whom Hoshino tasks to look after her, forming a crush on him which he does not reciprocated. Contrast this darkness with her bedroom, filled with stuffed toys like an innocent child. The one scene where we see her smiling and having fun is when she joins a group of people flying kites, which is promptly followed by her suicide.
