YMMV / Algicosathlon Rises

Go To

  • Ass Pull: Red's Heel–Face Turn in the Christmas Skit wasn't hinted at any way by any episode in the main series.
  • Awesome Ego: Silver is cold-hearted, egotistical and very self-centered, all while regarded as a good villain and character.
  • Broken Base:
    • Is the constant amount of shipping and Ship Tease a healthy situation for the series, that brings more thinly-veiled arcs, or is just a bad attempt to give the characters' some characterization?
    • Was the appearance of Polandball in the later episodes a good way to lead the plot to its end or was it a complete Ass Pull that helped to derail Magenta and especially NotScotish?
    • Was the Hand Wave that cured Yellow's anxiety worth it at the end. Some people think it was way better than watching her old self, while others think it was an appalling twist. Others liked the reason for its use, but would rather see an arc about Yellow overcoming her anxiety.
  • Character Rerailment:
    • Yellow, a formerly despised character, has reached this in Early Season 2 as she gets an arc that's not involved with her crush on Maroon.
    • Blue's character was regarded as very flat and near-Satellite Character dependency on Cyan, despite him lasting very long in Season 1. His first-boot status in Season 2 led to him establishing his relationship better, while also forming an Odd Friendship with fellow cannon-fodder Brown and being important in Orange's redemption arc.
  • Development Heaven: Neater animation, more thinly-veiled plots and more attention to the fandom's criticisms led Season 2 to be this.
  • Do Not Do This Cool Thing: Cyan, in a total of TWELVE EPISODES, has climbed a mountain, flew in the wings of a jet, and was implied to jump a cliff with a BMX.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Lavender is seen as thid due to her science gimmick and overall rational personality, compared to nearly everyone else's emotional and sappy characterization.
    • Aqua lands on this trope due to his Only Sane Man status and fun interactions with Not Scotish. The fact that he is one of the only two characters to be dubbed helps a bit.
    • Brown is one of the most popular Season 2 debuters, as she has a fun gimmick and interactions, along with an Odd Friendship with Blue.
  • Evil Is Cool: The villains' reputation towards the fans is better than the heroes, especially Silver and Pink.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: There is a huge Southeast Asian fandom for the series. It is estimated in near 27% of the whole fandom.
  • Growing the Beard: Seadon 2 is much more highly-regarded than Season 1, due to the importance given to the show's Myth Arc, character development and more varied attempts at humor.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name:
    • From canon to non-canon ships: Blyan (Blue x Cyan), Gran or Teen (Tan x Green), Lirange (Lime x Orange), Civory or Ivobalt (Cobalt x Ivory) ;Yellroon (Yellow x Maroon), Purpeal (Purple x Teal), Viorange (Violet x Orange), Blown (Blue x Brown).
  • Ship-to-Ship Combat: Blue x Cyan VS Blue x Brown VS Blue x Orange; Orange x Lime VS Orange x Violet VS Orange x Blue.
  • Quirky Work: A show about [1]s competing in a reality show, making friends, getting into fights, and, when a lunatic appears, they now gotta prepare for an imminent war, sprinkled with some time-traveling, shipping, science and daredevilness.
  • The Scrappy:
    • Purple is often seen as the worst character of the entire show, and doesn't seem to get any respect from the fandom, in general.
    • Teal is seen as a complete waste of a character who is only executed as a Satellite Character for previously-mentioned Purple.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Teal's interaction with Purple were seen as a nice possibility for her characterization, and her status as a robot could lead to interesting moral agency conflicts; but all these traits fell flat and left Teal as an uninteresting character for the vast majority of the fandom.
  • Wangst: Black's depression is sometimes seen as a weird, disrespectful form of being whiny, to the point a part of the fans theorized that he was faking it.
