YMMV / Akumaizer 3

Go To

  • Awesome Music: "Shouri da! Akumaizer 3" is a rhythmic and triumphant sounding theme song that captures the swashbuckler feel of the series and stands out as quite memorable.
  • Catharsis Factor: After Mezalord spends the entire series spitefully killing people, it's incredibly satisfying when, in the penultimate episode, the Akumaizer 3 use their New Light Attack to trap him inside a stone slab, resulting in him meeting a very deserved Fate Worse than Death.
  • Complete Monster: Mezalord is a cruel Akuma Clan regiment commander in charge of their surface invasion. Introduced torturing a group of humans, Mezalord orders that the "strong" be enslaved while those who collapsed be killed so their blood can be made into wine. When the humans are freed, Mezalord orders them all executed and even personally attempts to kill a child. When the Akumaizer 3 continually interfere, Mezalord holds Xavitan's mother hostage to force him to surrender, and murders her in front of him when she encourages her son to keep fighting. He later sends Majoruka to carry out a plan to scorch Tokyo and, to ensure her loyalty, installs Twin Demon Circuits in her and her sister Darunia's heads, so that if one sister defied him the other would feel pain. His other acts include killing Evil's girlfriend Diana when she defects to be with her love; kidnapping Kirinda's granddaughter to blackmail him into fighting the Akumaizer 3; and having his guards lacerate Namenameda. Even when ousted from power, Mezalord rallies his remaining forces for a final all-out attack to conquer the surface, a vile warmonger to the end.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Majoruka is pretty popular among fans for her mini-arc revolving her and her little sister Darunia, to the point of there being quite a bit of fanart showing the two together.
    • For similar reasons, Diana/Dianger (Evil's lover) and Yuki-onna (Gabra's childhood friend) also seem to be fairly popular for their relationships with the Akumaizer 3.
  • Evil Is Cool: The Akuma Clan stand out among the Toku baddies of their era for how unique in concept they are, with many of their members having very creative and cool designs.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: It was fairly popular in Thailand, to the point of getting its own manga and DVD releases there.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: For fans of the series, seeing the Akumaizers pop up as villains in Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Wizard & Fourze: Movie War Ultimatum might hit especially hard considering an early theme in the series was the Akumaizers being mistaken as villains for their appearances, in spite of all the heroism they had done.
  • Iron Woobie: The Akumaizer 3 themselves. They're all outcasts from their people and their fight against the Akuma Clan sees them having to go up against many of their old friends, yet they never waver from their commitment to defend humanity.
  • Love to Hate: Mezalord. While other tokusatsu villains from 1970s Toku might have been known for being cool or scary, Mezalord seems to be characterized by just how much of a vile Manipulative Bastard he is. You can hate him, but you can't say he isn't fun to hate.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Mezalord definitely crossed a line when he killed Xavitan's mother. And right in front of him too.
  • Narm Charm: Akumaizer 3 is a series that manages to have a lot of heart, even if it is a cheesy 1970s Toku. Its protagonists are a bunch of People in Rubber Suits but it's hard not to be endeared to them with how well they play off each other.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Child actor Satoshi Furukawa's first role was as Noppelar Jr. in #24. He would later go on to play a leading role as Kenji Hayami in Space Ironmen Kyodain.
  • Ugly Cute: Gabra, with his fugly but simplistic design and earnest Gentle Giant nature.
