YMMV / Aisopos

Go To

  • Awesome Art: The art style may be different from the conventional styles often seen in other webtoons, but it's still very gorgeous to look at with its distinct characters' designs and atmosphere.
  • Awesome Ego: The main reason why Theo is still remembered is because of this. The other is because of being a good mentor towards Aesop.
  • Base-Breaking Character: The Big Bad of the story, Yadmon. Some people think that he is one of the most interesting and well-written villains in a Webtoon, while others dislike him for always ruining Aesop and Bri's relationship, which itself, is a fan-favourite.
  • Cult Classic: Has a small fanbase that believes that the story deserves more love and recognition.
  • Die for Our Ship: Yadmon gets this treatment from Aesop/Bri shippers, since every time he is around, these two are forced to abandon each other.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Lots and lots of characters are really loved among the fandom:
    • Ms.Chrysa, the woman who helps Aesop throughout the story, due to her tough personality and for being a Big Beautiful Woman.
    • The Barbarian that accompanies Aesop, due to his Gentle Giant personality and for his character design resembling that of Hagrid.
    • Theo might be a Small Name, Big Ego who only appeared in the dungeon arc, but he is still remembered by fans for his Hidden Depths, the help he provided to the young protagonist and, especially, for his name, which many think it would be a good name for Aesop and Bri's kid ( had they had one).
    • Lenius and Daross, the two Spartan brothers, each one for their own reasons (but mainly because they are Spartans, and their civilization has been associated with awesomeness, thanks to a particular Pop-Cultural Osmosis movie):
      • Lenius for his Heroic Sacrifice and for being, generally, a Cool Big Bro towards Daross. Many wanted him to appear immediately after his departure (something that happened). His charisma when he got old also helped.
      • Daross, for providing the series with some of the most awesome moments (while he originally appeared as a non-violent guy).
    • Solon, for being one of the most well-known Ancient Greeks (even though he became a minor villain in Part 3.
    • To a small extent, Periander, the tyrant of Corinth, for being a well-executed and complex character.
  • Estrogen Brigade:
    • Lenius had already caught the eye of the female readers, thanks to his bold sacrifice to save Aesop and Daross, but he became even more popular with them, when he reappeared in his twenties, bulkier and with long, red hair.
    • Aesop also has a small number of dedicated fangirls, helped by his Adaptational Attractiveness.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple:
    • Aesop and Bri is the biggest, arguably. Helped by the fact that they have realistic interactions, Bri herself is really interesting compared to the majority of female love interests and having all in all a tragic background.
    • While not nearly as popular, Archius and Yadmon have a small following, due to Archius' attempts at protecting his master.
  • Fanon: Fans have theorised that, had Aesop and Bri had a child, his name would be Theo.
  • I Knew It!: After Theo made a comment that Bri was so beautiful that anyone would assume "he" is a girl, if "he" wore a skirt, plenty of fans were sure that he would turn out to be a girl disguised as a boy. It was confirmed at the end of "Part 1".
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Has attracted plenty of Ancient Greece lovers for its writing and its art.
  • Memetic Badass:
    • Lenius and Daross, especially Lenius, thanks to their Spartan heritage.
    • Aesop as well, for his rhetoric skills. Fans has joked that "he could easily sell honey to bees".
  • Moe:
    • Every character as a kid can qualify, especially Aesop, Bri, Korki, Sallas and Daross.
    • Even the Barbarian has his share of moments!
The Barbarian: AWE! LOOK! GOD IS COMING FROM THE SKY!
Aesop: Ha ha! No, he is not. Take a good look! There's a rope holding him!
The Barbarian: AMAZING! IS HE ANOTHER GOD HOLDING THE ROPE IN THE SKY FOR HIM?
  • Moral Event Horizon: Every bit of sympathy you might have had for Yadmon as a character disappears when it's revealed that he intends to pass off Aesop's tales, the same ones that he forces him to come up with and whips the crap out of him for as his own. And to add insult to injury, he tells his friend Peisistratos that he intends to name them "Yadmon's Fables".
  • Narm: The Battle Cry of the soldiers is, believe it or not, "Wheeeee!", which is weird coming from grown-up men.
  • The Scrappy: The unnamed slave woman who insisted on Aesop going on the condemned cells underground (because she had children and Aesop was an unwanted orphan) gained a lot of hate from the fans, who immediately called her a bitch.
  • Special Effect Failure: There 're instances where the illustrator just sticks a highly muscular body to the characters, which is extremely obvious.
