• Heartwarming Moments: The first thing Simon does is give Marceline the spoon from "Simon and Marcy".
• It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: While the comic is getting praise from the fans, some are criticizing the first arc for being another Alternate Timeline plot, which was the most recurrent plot in the original comic book series, instead of following the events of the finale and showing what the Land of Ooo is up to after the battle against GOLB.
• Tear Jerker: Finn telling Minerva about Fern in issue 5 and expressing remorse over his death.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: As cited above, the Alternate Timeline plot. It doesn't help that the plot takes two-thirds of the chapters in this 6 issue comic series, which could be used to develop the characters and the left hanging plot points that the series left after it ended. And since the comic was cancelled at the halfway point, the entire thing is now considered a wasted opportunity.
