YMMV / According to Jim

Go To

  • Critical Dissonance: Despite getting mostly negative reviews by critics, the show was popular enough with viewers that it aired for eight years.
  • Cliché Storm: Jim is a middle aged dad who loves all things macho and hates anything he considers "girly" and "nerdy", his wife is a sensitive woman who constantly tries to get him to open up emotionally, his brother-in-law is his fat, loser sidekick, he and his sister-in-law can't stand one another, and he is constantly at odds with his son due to his preference of "girly" and "nerdy" things. Pretty much every family sitcom cliche you can think of is in one episode of the series at one point or another.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In the season 3 finale, Cheryl is taking a pregnancy test at the beginning, and she and Jim are discussing what it'll be like if the test is positive, (though Jim is less optimistic about another kid than he lets on) Jim says "I hope it's twins!" which is pretty hilarious since Cheryl eventually DOES give birth to twins later on in the series.
  • Ho Yay: Between Jim and Andy.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Lulu Antariksa from How to Rock plays one of Ruby's friends Madeleine in the Season 2 episode "Slumber Party". In both her speaking scenes in the episode, she gives Andy trouble during both a card trick and when he's telling the girls about construction work, specifically dry wall.
Andy: "Can you say 'dry wall'?"
Madeleine: "You don't have a girlfriend, do you?"
