YMMV / Absented Age: Squarebound

  • Demonic Spiders: The Puck and Gnome enemies are basically like the Mr. Toad enemies in that they can remove equipment from Karen. Unfortunately, they're also a powerful ranged attackers that can heal their allies. If the player ends up fighting multiple at a time, it can be hard to survive their long range attacks and equipment removal mechanic while outdamaging their healing. This is especially true during the Chimaera fight, who summons Pucks at much higher levels than normal.
  • Game-Breaker: Using a Sluggish Potion on a boss and a Rapid Potion on the player character gives the latter a massive turn advantage. This is especially useful during Ganger boss fights and the postgame boss, since their shields can only be restored after they take enough actions.
  • Jerks Are Worse Than Villains: Rumi and the vice-principal of Amefuribashi High are written as selfish jerkasses who antagonize the Sado Band Club out of jealousy and ambition respectively. They come off as less sympathetic than actual main villains, the Gangers, who at least have the excuse of having an uncontrollable craving for Heart Fragments. Even the worst of the Gangers, Karen Alias, shows regrets for her actions, but Rumi and the vice-principal are unapologetic.
  • That One Boss: The Ruin Warden features an arena surrounded by water, which means that its knockback electric beam can easily decimate the player's HP bar if they're hit dead on. While other Ganger bosses are hard in their own ways, this one severely punishes the player for failing to dodge in comparison. Adding to that, the method for breaking its shield is much more specific than other Ganger bosses, since it won't normally take damage from Foxtrot. Even if the player manages to break its shield and force it into turn-based mode, it's still quite strong due to its ability to switch between physical and magical immunity, along with powerful AOE and knockback skills.
