• Funny Moments: “No, Marcus, I do not want to spend Christmas with Miss Granola Suicide and her spawn.”
• Genius Bonus: There is a scene where Marcus thinks he sees his mother across a crowded park, but when he finally gets to where he saw her she isn't there. This scene is never referenced again, but it takes place at the exact moment that Marcus's mother attempts suicide. There are many reported cases where someone sees someone they know in an unexpected place, but then they disappear, only to later find out that the person died at the moment, or was in a life-or-death situation. It's often called a "crisis manifestation".
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • Nicholas Hoult playing an awkward, odd looking kid who gets bullied as a result, when here's how he looks nowadays.◊
  • Will starts complaining about Christmas songs being played mid November, but within the next decade that would become very late for hearing the first Christmas song.
• Hollywood Homely: Word of God is that Nicholas Hoult was a little too good looking to be believable as a social outcast, so they gave him an unflattering bowl haircut.
• Retroactive Recognition:
  • Suzie is played by Victoria Smurfitt, who'd later become known for playing none other than Cruella DeVille in Once Upon a Time.
  • Ellie is played by Natalia Tena, aka Tonks or Osha.
• The Woobie: Marcus one-hundred percent. When a character's first line is "There are some people who had a good time in life. I was starting to realize I wasn't one of them", you can tell it's not going to be a happy film for them. Fiona also counts due to her struggles with depression.
