YMMV / AZRE

Go To

  • Adorkable: Eirian, as despite her age, she's a plucky girl with an upbeat attitude and a deep love of history. She often goes into rambles about the places her team visit, which her team learn to let go on.
  • Complete Monster: Iya, a scout for the White Fang, is a sociopathic, violent woman who thrives on fighting and always defaults to threats or even actions of violence on people. She isn't above attacking defenseless people to get an edge in the fight, nor rub in her kills to loved ones to take in on their grief. Her attitude is so horrible that no one actually likes her, and the closest ally she has is Banesaw, who only looks out for her because she's still part of the White Fang and so under his leadership.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Many readers love Roxanne Marrón and Seigyoku Kashima, despite their smaller appearances in the story compared to the main cast.
  • Idiosyncratic Ship Naming: Like RWBY, some of the ships in AZRE have ship names along the same theming. This includes Manticores (Adam/Zanthus), Golden Fleece (Eirian/Yang), and Aurora Solitarus (Aurora/Whitley).
  • I Knew It!: A few readers figured out that Blake wasn't actually dead with the mention of the Leib Tribe, the tribe that Blake sought protection in, was trying to replensih their medicine supplies for an unnamed injured family member. That family member was confirmed to be Blake in Chapter 59.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Adam. He is very confrontational, has a poor temper, and isn't known to handle delicate situations with tact or decorum like Zanthus, but all this is heavily influenced by his past in the SDC mines, losing or being abandoned by everyone around him, and being branded with an SDC prod as a child. He at least acknowledges whenever he's crossed the line.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: Not many readers believed that Blake was actually dead after her fight with Banesaw and Iya in Chapter 18, and sure enough she's confirmed to have survived in Chapter 59.
  • Realism-Induced Horror: Despite the fantasy inspired story, most of the issues that plague the titular team are things very much found in the real world. Adam and Eirian struggled with severe racism in their lives, Zanthus' abuse and neglect under his parents, including the poverty he was born into, left him with severe CPTSD, and Ruri's deafness had her parents keep her inside to protect her, suffocating her and preventing Ruri from having a normal childhood with friends.
  • The Woobie: While a few apply, Eirian takes the title. All her life was spent in isolation because of severe bullying and ostracisation by the Faunus of Menagerie, due to her being a human/Faunus child. Her mother was barely around due to the stress at home, and later died in front of Eirian when she was a child. These things had left Eirian with severe self esteem issues and PTSD, something that she couldn't start to overcome until she made friends with her team and finally learned to stand up for herself to Adam.
