YMMV / A Story About My Uncle

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The soundtrack as a whole is great, but the Main Theme, which plays when the player discovers Star Haven, deserves special mention.
  • That One Achievement:
    • There are achievements for doing a perfect run of each level - that is, completing it without failing once. While this might be doable on the first four levels, if challenging, it's probably all but impossible in the Ice Caves. Look below to see why.
    • The achievements that require to complete the levels with the bare minimum of used grapples. This is somewhat doable on Sanctuary and the Village, but have fun trying to do the other ones. In particular, attempting to go through the Chasms like this requires you to go through the section with the bridges placed over bottomless pits without grabbing the blue bushes. This means that you have to go through that section in complete dark. Oh, and did we mention that dying does NOT reset the amount of used grapples?
  • That One Level: The Ice Caves are the most commonly criticised level, with two sections being singled out in particular:
    • The falling boxes near the beginning. You must cross a room by grappling and jumping between floating boxes, which can already be hard in itself until you figure out the correct route. Then, as soon as you trigger the story event on the other side of the room, you have to go back across, this time with the boxes falling from the ceiling. It wouldn't be so bad if a) you didn't have a limited number of grapples and b) the game didn't insta-kill you the second you get too far down, no matter how close to the end you are.
    • The stalactites section is similarly reviled: you have to traverse a long section by swinging between stalactites, some of which will fall from the ceiling as soon as you grapple onto them, and recharge your grapple in midair through the use of power crystals. Bear in mind that power crystals require at least one grapple left to use, so if you misjudged the number of grapples to use (or simply miss a crystal and accidentally hit a grapplable surface), have fun starting from the beginning, because there are no checkpoints.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: While the entire game looks great, Star Haven is absolutely gorgeous.
