- Genius Bonus: Teixcalaanli uses the term "barbarian" frequently to describe Mahit and other outsiders. While the term is derogatory, no one treats it as particularily insulting, especially not compared to how it would be received if it was used this way in real life. This is because Teixcalaanli uses it in its original Roman meaning, roughly "someone not from Rome." While the "uncivilized" part was implied, it was not as explicit as it is today.
