The Broken Universe is a paracosm of "Broken" Matt Hardy, a metaphysical system inhabited by a variety of people, deities, and other creatures both animate and inanimate. Its creator and most well-known resident, Broken Matt, began showcasing the broken brilliance of the Broken Universe during his time on Impact Wrestling, then known as TNA.
Broken Universe contains examples of:
- Another Dimension: It is supposed to be a new reality, hence "Broken Universe."
- Arc Words: "Delightful", "Broken brilliance", "the seven deities", "Delete", "Obsolete".
- That Reminds Me of a Song: The recurring nature of the "obsolete" song.
- Same Character, But Different: The purpose of the Lake of Reincarnation is for a wrestler to be reborn, in some cases with a new gimmick.
- Wrestling Family: The Broken Universe counts among its denizens Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy (alias Brother Nero) and Reby Sky.
- Writing Around Trademarks: Matt didn't acquire full-ownership of the idea until January 31, 2018, so when WWE did the Broken Universe storyline with Bray Wyatt a few weeks before a lot of words are altered (e.g. Matt being called "Woken" instead of "Broken") because it was already written beforehand.
