Space Chimps 2: Zartog Strikes is a 2010 sequel to Space Chimps. The movie focuses on Comet wanting to be taken seriously as a full-fledged space chimp. Meanwhile, Zartog plots his revenge on Ham.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Astronaut: Comet wants to be taken seriously as a real space chimp and gets his wish when he accidentally activates the spaceship to launch.
  • Bilingual Bonus:
    • When Zartog is trying to communicate with the humans, Dr. Jagu tries speaking to Zartog in Spanish, Hindi, and Xhosa.
    • After Zartog tells the scientists "Say goodbye, Earth nerds," we hear him repeat the sentence in Alien, and the word "nerds" remains the same. "Nerd" is not an English word but a loan word. In languages such as French, German, Spanish, and many others, the term "nerd" is often used with the same meaning.
Dr. Bob: I know he's speaking Alien, but did he just call us nerds?
  • Chekhov's Gun: The prototype Bananaberry phone messes with the natives of planet Malgor and controls their motor functions. At Kilowatt’s urging, Comet uses it to defeat Zartog.
  • Disintegrator Ray: The de-particle-izer.
  • Disney Death: Zartog uses a de-particle-izer to zap all the scientists out of existence. They're brought back at the end.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Zartog when he hijacks the car of the guys who accidentally hit him.
  • Dull Surprise: The guys who accidentally run over Zartog with their car and Titan upon seeing Zartog is back.
  • Flashback: While Zartog is trying to communicate with the humans, he does a bad impression of Ham. Ham shows up behind him and says Piddles the Clown does a better impression of him than that... cut to Piddles imitating monkey chatter.
  • Dying Declaration of Love: Dr. Jagu to Dr. Poole when she's getting de-particle-ized.
  • Inexplicable Language Fluency: Zartog understands the humans, despite having just arrived on Earth. He even understands Spanish, Hindi, and Xhosa upon hearing them for the first time, making the humans' inability to understand him even more hilarious.
  • Kid Hero: Comet.
  • Language Barrier: The humans have no idea what Zartog is saying, because he's "speaking an alien language".
  • Made of Iron: Zartog is perfectly fine after being hit by a car.
  • Never Say "Die": Although the de-particle-izer is a deadly weapon, the closest thing to mentioning death is Zartog threatening to "blast all the scientists into oblivion".
  • Not Quite Back to Normal: Everyone de-particle-ized is restored with another’s voice at first.
  • Revenge of the Sequel: Zartog Strikes Back.
  • Shout-Out: Ham does an impression of Steve Irwin when sneaking into Mission Control.
  • Shrink Ray: After bringing the scientists back, Comet reprograms the vaporizer to shrink Zartog.
  • They Call Me MISTER Tibbs!: Comet wants Houston to stop calling him "kid".
  • Took a Level in Dumbass: Titan was dumb before, but he reaches extreme levels of stupidity in this movie when he helps Zartog get into the base.
Titan: Wait, I did what now?
    • Zartog too. It's clear that the humans don't understand him, but he just doesn't get the message.
  • Tag Line: Get ready to blast off on a new adventure
  • Time Skip: Takes place two years after the events of the first movie.
  • Translation Convention: Played for Laughs. When Zartog tries to communicate with the humans, all they hear is Tasmanian Devil-esque gibberish.
  • Villain Decay: Zartog.
