Scrap Happy Daffy is a 1943 Looney Tunes cartoon directed by Frank Tashlin and starring Daffy Duck. It is a Wartime Cartoon prompting the necessity of scrap iron.

Set during World War II, Daffy is in charge of operating a scrap pile and collecting surplus iron for the war effort. When he mentions in a newspaper "Let's junk Hitler!", the Nazi leader throws a tantrum before ordering a submarine to destroy Daffy's scrap pile. The submarine then unleashes its ultimate metal-destroying weapon: a hungry goat assigned to devour all the iron. Daffy attempts to stop the Nazi spy, but the goat overwhelms him. Just when he's ready to admit defeat, the spirits of his patriotic ancestors encourage him not to give up, leading him to becoming "Super American" and defeat both the goat and submarine. When Daffy awakens next morning, he believes that he dreamed the whole thing, only to discover a surprising new addition to his scrap pile.

Tropes appearing in this cartoon:

  • All Men Are Perverts: Daffy briefly interrupts his song about operating the scrap pile in order to ogle a drawing of a beautiful woman and do a Wolf Whistle.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When the Nazi submarine arrives at the shore of Daffy's scrap pile, they fire a torpedo labeled "Scrap Destroyer". Once it reaches land, it seems like it's going to explode and destroy the pile. Instead, however, it opens up to reveal that it was carrying a goat which begins eating the metal.
  • Bullying a Dragon: The main conflict of the cartoon probably wouldn't have happened if Daffy hadn't declared "Let's junk Hitler!" in the news article about his scrap pile.
  • Chewing the Scenery: Hitler does this literally, chewing a carpet in frustration after finding out about the scrap pile. He even follows a dotted line on the carpet!
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: As Super American, Daffy effortlessly smacks around the goat and the Nazi submarine.
  • Elevator Gag: Daffy moving from the top to the bottom of the scrap pile shows moving window lights akin to an elevator going down.
  • Extreme Omni-Goat: The Nazis send a goat to eat Daffy's scrap heap.
  • Heroic BSoD: Daffy has a brief one after getting his ass handed to him by the Nazi Goat, but he snaps out of it when the ghosts of his ancestors give him the motivation he needs most.
  • Heroic Second Wind: Daffy as Super American.
  • List Song: When Daffy starts listing things that can be recycled into his scrap pile:
    Pots, pans, old tin cans
    Pails, nails, empty jails
    Vats, hats, rubber mats
    Missing links, kitchen sinks...
  • Rousing Speech: The ghosts of Daffy's ancestors do this through song, boasting of their past accomplishments and reminding him that Americans don't give up.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The goat and later those aboard the Nazi submarine try to flee in the face of Super American. They don't get very far.
  • Shout-Out: Overwhelmed by the Nazi goat and unable to stop it, Daffy comments "What I wouldn't give for a can of spinach now."
  • Sigil Spam: Upon first encountering the goat, Daffy acted friendly towards it, even as it was eating his iron...until he saw the swastika badge on its collar, making Daffy realize the goat was a Nazi.
  • Superman Substitute: Inspired by the spirits of his forefathers, Daffy transforms into Super American, complete with cape and chest insignia.
  • That Was Not a Dream: Daffy wakes up and thinks him fighting the Nazis was All Just a Dream. But then he sees the goat and a mess of Nazi planes and U-boats piled up on his scrapyard.
Nazis: Next time you dream, include us out!
  • Wartime Cartoon: A cartoon about saving scrap for the war effort.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: After losing the first round to the goat, Daffy gives up. The ghost of one of his ancestors immediately calls this shameful.
  • You Wouldn't Hit a Guy with Glasses: Daffy uses this against the goat, saying the phrase as he dons a pair of glasses. When the goat goes to attack Daffy's rear, a pair of glasses appear on his tail feathers too.
